• The Finance Committee and Select Board have each unanimously voted to recommend rejection of these articles 
• Both Town Counsel and Aviation attorneys consider these articles to be ILLEGAL 
• These articles would force the Town to litigate with Federal and State authorities 
• There is NO LIMIT to what litigation might cost the Chatham taxpayers – recent skydive-related litigation has cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal, administrative and settlement fees. 
• The Town could be forced to repay up to $8.4 million in grants made over the past twenty years 
• Neither article would make Chatham Airport safer for pilots or people on the ground 
• The articles would require Chatham taxpayers to pay the full costs of maintaining and enhancing the airport infrastructure in the future, which are projected to be over $500K per year on average in the next 5 years
•  Passage of these articles would cripple the airport and could eventually lead to its closure 

Chatham Airport (CQX) has been an integral part of Chatham for over 80 years.  It has supported hard-working folks in Chatham businesses and created jobs through the community, helping to keep tax rates low.  It has also supported emergency medical services, charitable activities, and aviation education for those seeking aviation careers.  The most recent study conducted by MassDOT in 2019 stated that Chatham Airport contributes $13.9M annually to our local economy, and directly or indirectly supports 156 jobs in our Community.
